Amanda Bossard, fresh out of Anchorage High School in 1992 began studying marine biology. Bossard started her commercial seafood career in 1999, when she began working on the ship F/V Sunset. This 65' schooner converted to the role of a salmon tender is operated by Murat Aritan. He has been a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard and Aritan are married now and are working together to claim their place in their industry. They are both proponents of preserving sustainable and renewable marine resources. Otolith was founded by Philadelphia through Bella Bossard who is now mother to two kids aged 3 and 1, Bossard. Its name is an affectionate recall of her extensive understanding of fish biology and her husband's long connection to the industry of seafood, often leaving them separated for five months or longer when they are focused on their financial and environmental goals which show their independence as well as commitment to their community wherever they call home. Bossard together with Isabella and Andre (ages 12, 10 respectively) are back each year, from July to August in Southeast Alaska for the summer harvest from wild salmon. A troller with a size of 42 is used, the Bossards capture salmon with hooks. Then they work alongside Aritan working in the local processing plant for two weeks.
